Tiguan Is Europe's Best SUV

Ulrich Hackenberg, VW's executive board member for development, accepts the Auto 1 award for the Tiguan.

How can 40-million people possibly be wrong? This is how many voted the Volkswagen Tiguan as Europe's best SUV.

Initially, 40-million readers of 26 European issues of Auto Bild voted for their respective national winners and favorites in six categories.

Then the top three in each category were put through their paces on a testing ground by race drivers, technicians and auto journalists.

The Tiguan is the winner in the SUV category and gets the coveted Auto 1 trophy (pictured).

The Tiguan hit the European market last fall and will arrive in North America by summer.

The all New Volkswagen Scirocco

Volkswagen AG finally reveals the long awaited new generation of the legendary Scirocco. Slightly different from the scIROCco concept VW has been working on for the past 2 years.

The new sports coupe offers 4 different diesel and gas engines offering from 122 to 200 horse power. The dual exhaust pipes are now coupled together at one side, rather than separated with one at each side. Power is routed to the front 17-inch alloy wheels via a six-speed manual transmission — optional are six- and seven-speed dual-clutch automatics.

The panoramic sunroof and touch-screen navigation are two key options os the all new Volkswagen scirocco.

Volkswagen AG is not planning on bringing the new Scirocco to North America - afraid to kill the GTI and 2008 R32 sales. However, this decision may change in the future.

RaVe: The 270-Horse 2.0T Concept

Volkswagen's RaVe 270 concept showcases the enormous potential of the automaker's award-winning 2.0T engine.

In current production form, in vehicles such as the GTI and Jetta GLI, this turbocharged four-cylinder generates 200 horsepower. At most, it puts out 230 horses in Europe's 30th-anniversary GTI. In the RaVe 270, however, the 2.0T churns out an impressive 270 horses.

This is VW's most powerful four-cylinder ever.

Modifications were made to the turbocharger, intercooling and engine electronics.

With 4Motion all-wheel drive, the Jetta SportWagen-based RaVe is approaching high-performance territory occupied by Subaru's Impreza WRX and Mitsubishi's Evolution.

From zero to 60 MPH goes by in less than 5.8 seconds, VW says. Top speed is 155 MPH.

One drawback is that the engine requires super-grade fuel.

Other innovations of the RaVe 270 include a 1,400-watt sound system with 13 speakers and subwoofers, sport seats, Biscay Blue paint, an extended hood over xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, quad exhaust pipes, rear diffuser, 19-inch alloy wheels, 18-inch Brembo brakes, lowered suspension, plus numerous exterior styling bits.

The RaVe 270 is on display at the Essen auto show.

Volkswagen Touareg R50

What you see on this page is the ultimate sporting interpretation of Volkswagen's mighty Touareg SUV.

The R50 is equipped with a modified V10 TDI diesel that launches it down the road with 350 horsepower and a massive 627 pound-feet of torque — up from 313 and 553, respectively, in the regular-production Touareg.

Adjustments were made to the turbocharging and engine management system.

Mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, the R50 is good for a zero-to-60-MPH sprint of under 6.7 seconds, nearly 10-percent quicker than that of the lesser Touareg (7.4 seconds). The top speed is 146 MPH.

Fuel economy is still relatively decent at around 19 MPG in the city, 24 on the highway.

The R50's exterior is designed like the GTI-based R32 and Passat-based R36 before it — which means a Biscay Blue paint job, gigantic 21-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, blue brake calipers, wheel-well flares, lowered sport suspension, aerodynamic kit and chrome grille with matt finish.

Optional colors are Campanella White, Reflex Silver, Black Magic and Atacam Gray.

Inside are heated front and rear leather sport seats, plus metal trim and accents.

The Touareg R50 is not intended for the North American market but we do get the lesser, still quite sporting and very capable, V10 TDI.

Eurocars Euro CarsToday I was browsing youtube for Euro Cars. And I found some interesting videos such as Euro Cars vs American Cars, Euro Cars are the best and many other Euro Cars related videos. I noticed that most of these videos (not all... I said most) promote euro cras and bash the american rides. Now I do not agree with those statments.

Sure, I prefer euro cars, that's why I owned 5 Volkswagens so far, but I think American cars have a great story and history as well. Especially Ford or even the less reputable and currently downfalling GM. These are cars as well, and I think we all should respect its admireres and makers - if they like it - there is a reason.
We, eurocars lovers, might not understand these reasons, low fuel efficency and the huge weight of these cars - but they do.

Volkswagen makes v8 and even v10 engines as well. And there are some pretty ugly euro cars on the market, especially from Eastern Europe - these are still eurocars.

I bet the title of this post excites you!? Well calm down... The 2010 Rabbit seems to be no different from the 2006 models. Of course except some minor design changes, a sligh "make-up" if you will. Front end might be a little different and things like the size of the doors... It will most likely keep carrying the 5 cylinder 2.5L engine or even more popular 4 cylinder engine for fuel economy reasons - which might be a downgdrade for allready very modest 150hp (170 in 2007 models). If 2009 Diesel Jetta will sell on North American market, the new 2010 Rabbit MIGHT get a Diesel engine as an option - but non of it has been confirmed be Volkswagen AG.
The 2010 Rabbit will make its debute in Europe in early 2008 as a Golf, and will most likely be available in the United states and Canada ib 2009.

Another concept, proudly announced by Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn... rear-engine, 4 seats, 3 door. Possibly will also be available in 5 doors or even convertible.

Measuring a tiny 3,450mm in length and 1,630mm in width, the Up is capable of carrying four passengers. Yet those German ingeneers come up with a new design for upcoming cars. Rumors state the UP! will carry a turbocharged 1.4L engine, curently in the Golf GT.

Volkswagen's administration just had to come up with somwthing to beat the Yaris and Suzuki Swift.
Don't get too excited, the release is not planned anywhere before 2011.

I must add, I hardly doubt the availability if this car in North America.

The Evercar.com - Car website by women for women has chosen the VW Eos as the best car of the year. It topped the shortlist of 27 cars sold in UK.

Alex Jenner-Fust, editor of evecars.com said: "Our winner had to excel in its category and have a wider appeal. Volkswagen's Eos is a car you can buy because you love it, and because it makes perfect sense. It’s a convertible without the potential weakness of a cloth roof, practical enough to carry four, but sexy, too. While it feels sporty to drive, it's not so demanding you couldn’t drive it every day."

Every car was given a thorough inspection and judges looked at how easy is was to find a good driving position, get into and out of the back seats, fit a child seat and pack the boot.
The cars were then put through their paces on winding country lanes and fast sections of dual carriageway as well as being manoeuvred around a couple of tight parking spaces.

Volkswagen to change the Logo in 2008!

The German Car Blog is reporting that VW chief Martin Winterkorn has decided to refresh the world known VW Logo.
It seems like the new Golf VI will get a new logo in 2008. The V and the W in the logo will be more separated and will appear more 3-D, but overall look will remain the same. VolkswagenAG does not believe this change would affect their sales in any kind of way.

Driver's magazine confirmed that the new Vw Scirocco, a.k.a. IROC will not be making its way to the North America.
Volkswagen of America CEO claims there is no market for such a car. Lots of us, car-lovers disagree, so does the Volkswagen AG.

Many people claim that Scirocco will not be sold in the US and Canada, in couple of years. Why such a delay?
Simple. VWofA wants to make all the money possible with the 2 new hot hatches; the 2.0T GTI and the 2.5L new Rabbit.

My personal concern is that at this exact moment VAG (Volkswagen Auto Groupe) offers over 13 different NEW models. In Canada only 7 new models are available.

Why can't we enjoy the fuel economy of a 1.4L Fox or Polo,
sapcious suv Touran and/or Sharar or the confort of the Phaeton? Let's not forget the Caddy Life, Multivan and the upcoming Scirocco and the Tiguan?

I guess the fact that VwofA dictates the VwAG of what to sell in the North America...

A study done by EurotaxGlass, shows that the Eos, or more specifically an Eos 2.0L TDI Sport, has the second best resale value in the UK, bright after the #1 the Ferrari F430 Spider. This puts Volkswagen in some pretty good company at the top.

During the 12 months study, Ferrari F430 Spider maintained 97% of its value and the Eos kept 94% of its value. Of all the vehicles they tested, only these two managed to lose less that 10% of their value.

Not bad for the Eos' first year and it's yet another reason to get an Eos just as the Summer season begins...

VW tuning specialist JE DESIGN from Leingarten/Germany presents now a complete styling suite for the new VW Touareg type 7 L
The Touareg R 5 has been given a performance boost, which increases the basic power of the 2.5 l TDI engine from 128 kW / 174 bhp to 152 kW / 206 bhp. Following this performance enhancement, the maximum torque goes up to 460 Nm. JE DESIGN also supplies a performance enhancement package for the Touareg V 10 5.0 TDI, which gives the brawny VW 259 kW / 352 bhp, equating to an increase of 29 kW / 39 bhp. Following this enhancement, the maximum torque is increased from 750 Nm to 855 Nm. Hi. I'm Alex, at this moment at my first Volkswagen - and I just can't get enough of European cars. Audi, Volkswagen, BMW... and so many more! So I've decided to create a blog, share pictures, news and tips with all of you around the internet. My goal is to update this blog daily with content about european cars, euro car shows and scene.
